Tell You Something Bad
Single channel video, stereo sound
10min 39sec
2025
To make artificial intelligence into a “better” model, human workers are, paradoxically, repeatedly exposed to unethical and violent imaginaries.
This video appropriates the actual interfaces and workflows used in AI training. It includes procedures such as supervised fine-tuning, ranking tasks for reward modeling, and red teaming, with the questions composed with reference to items drawn from reinforcement learning datasets for the Claude model.
The mode of screening is also part of the work. The screening space is staged as a theater, and the screen facing the audience becomes the AI trainer’s monitor. The audience is not kept in the passive position of simply “watching” an image, but is invited to endure, together, the very screen on which the trainer reads and responds. In other words, rather than merely reproducing the trainer’s workspace, the installation turns the audience’s entire field of vision into a working environment. The AI trainer’s labor is presented both as an on-stage performance and as a scene of contemporary emotional labor.
